Elevation Worship & Maverick City Music blur the lines of Gospel and CCM with Old Church Basement

Translated into 175 languages (as of February 2021), Elevations The Blessing carried us through the pandemic, and their recent collaboration with Maverick City Music might just be the soundtrack to our summer 2021.

Old Church Basement boasts 13 tracks which straddle the Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) divide. The album is set to end Carrie Underwood's 5 week stint at the top of Billboards Christian Album chart this weekend, whilst simultaneously ending Cece Winans 7-week run at the Top of the Gospel Album chart. Singles Jireh and Talking to Jesus have amassed a combined total of almost 10 million streams, and current single Wait on you is sitting at the top of 3 Billboard Gospel charts - Hot Gospel Songs, Gospel Streaming Songs and Gospel Digital Songs.

Reflecting on the Old Church Basement, Elevation Church Senior Pastor; Steven Furtick said: Its really just about getting back to the place where you learned what worship was, wherever that was for you and thats what we are praying for. That it will be more than just a song that you can listen to, but it will be a sound that brings you back to that pure place where you know that you have a Father and that He cares for you.

Before any lights and a stage, for a lot of us it was just a few chords on an acoustic guitar or piano in a youth room with a few of our friends. This collection of songs is so special to us as its reminiscent of when we first fell in love with worshipping God, said Elevation Worship front-man, Chris Brown.

The Christian music industry is known to be racially polarized therefore it's refreshing to see a crop of hybrid artists unconsciously doing their bit to bridge the racial divide.

Thanks to Elevation Worship, Numbers 6:24-26 was undoubtedly one of the most popular bible passages sung in 2020.
