"I was jealous of my husbands success" says famous actress Jessica Oyelowo

When it comes to talent, versatility, and grace, few can compare to the remarkable Jessica Oyelowo. As an accomplished actress and passionate philanthropist, Jessica has captivated audiences on screen while making a substantial impact off-screen through her charitable endeavours. Jessica began her acting career on stage, eventually transitioning to television with appearances in popular series such as "Murder Prevention" (2004) and "Mayo" (2006). She made her film debut alongside her husband, actor David Oyelowo, in the critically acclaimed drama "A United Kingdom" (2016). The couple has been married since 1998 and they have four children. In this interview Jessica talks about some hard hitting feelings she's had to work through during her marriage to fellow actor David Oyelowo. In an honest moment she revealed how she's often felt jealous of her husbands success, saying: "I had to deal with a lot of jealousy. I was married to a man whose star was rising while I was at home wiping up poopy butts. When we had been in the UK, we'd been working together, like we'd been, he did a film, I did a film. I did a TV show, he did a play. He did a TV show, I did a play. We were like, we were very together in our career trajectory. And for it all to stop, I definitely had a bunch of identity crises." The actress went on to talk about how she managed to move past her feelings of jealousy, describing it as a 'death to self': "I can trick myself into thinking that I'm good, I'm godly, I've got it all, I'm whatever. [I'd pray] search my heart, O God, because my heart is wicked and deceitful, and I need you to tell me. I need you to love me. I need you to show me where I am not godly, where I am not OK, where I'm holding onto sin, where I'm holding onto self. And so my mantra in all of this, and I'm not saying it was easy, I can say it all with a smile now, it was hard, but death to self kind of became my mantra."
